% notes for the july 22 meeting. Purpose: Status of Instruments for Deployment. Attendees: Jielun Sun, Britt Stephens, Steve Oncley, Alex Guenther, Andrew Turnipseed, Sean Burns, Tony Delany, Tim (Student Assistant from ATD), and Teresa Campos. Some Items: ------------ * The Hydra system design is in place, but parts are still on order (deployment delay of about 2 weeks). * The design of tram is starting to take a more real form. Since this is such an experimental effort if they get one week of data that would be sufficient. The optimal goal will to have tram operating by mid-August. * Tether sondes will make some mods after testing in Brazil. Up to 3 balloons will be available. They will probably do some testing in the 1st or 2nd week of August and then look at these data to determine if any changes in the system or sampling method are necessary. * Cal gasses have been ordered for the cross-calibration. Britt will focus more on the cross-calibrations then the Russian CO_2 sensor. * Tony will set up the ATD LiCor 6251 to measure fluxes while waiting on parts for the Hydra. * The ATD towers and wind-measuring system will go into place sometime during the 1st week of August, and then the status of the Hydra will be updated at the next meeting. It is hopeful that full-scale operation is happening by mid-August. * Andrew will try to borrow the differential GPS from LTER for accurate measurements of the locations of the ATD towers. * Andrew reported that due to extremely dry conditions and an early spring snow-melt the CO_2 soil respiration levels are quite low so far this summer.
