Projects
MMM staff have devoted many hours to sharing their expertise
in meteorology with the public at large, through presentations
and informal teaching arrangements. Outlined below are some
of the outreach activities performed.
Daniel Breed: Gave a presentation
to the 4th and 5th grade classes at Mapleton Elementary entitled,
"Latitude and Longitude" in October 2001. In March
2002, he gave a presentation to the 4th and 5th graders at
Douglas Elementary entitled, "Lightning," which
included a slideshow and demonstration on storms, lightning
production and lightning safety. Dan was also a volunteer
judge at the Science Fair at Casey Middle School in January
2002.
Janice Coen: Created an
elementary school video on "Demonstration of Greenhouse
Effect" in July 2002. Janice gave many presentations
on fire modeling, including one at the Steamboat Weather Summit
on "Weather Impacts on Fire" at Steamboat Springs,
CO in January 2002. In September 2002, another presentation
was given at the Colorado Mitigation and Wildfire Conference
titled "Tech Tools for the 21st Century: Wildland Fire
Modeling".

Charlie Knight: Presented
"Hail, Supercooled Water, and Phase Changes" to
a High School class in Holyoke, CO in May 2002.
John Latham: Presented
"Creative Writing & Science" to the Arvon Foundation
in Yorkshire, UK in September 2002.
Margaret LeMone: Presented
"Earth-Atmosphere Interaction: The Influence of the Earth's
surface on wind, temperature and humidity" at NCAR in
July 2002.
Rebecca Morss: Gave a presentation
at the 1st Annual AMS Student Conference entitled, "In-depth
Look at an Organization: NCAR/UCAR" in Orlando, FL in
January 2002.
