Mesoscale & Microscale Meteorology Division | University of Wisconsin,Madison

Overview

The National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) and the Antarctic Meteorological Research Center (AMRC) of the University of Wisconsin cordially invite you to participate in The Antarctic Meteorological Observation, Modeling, and Forecasting Workshop to be held in Boulder, Colorado, USA. This workshop represents the integration of the meetings that for the past few years have been held jointly: the Antarctic Mesoscale Prediction System (AMPS) Users' Workshop and the AMRC and Antarctic Automatic Weather Station (AWS) annual meetings. The AMOMF Workshop will take place June 13-15, 2006 in the Foothills Lab of NCAR in Boulder, Colorado.

The workshop is meant to bring together those with both research and operational/logistical interests in Antarctic meteorology and forecasting. As in the past, the annual activities of the AMRC, AWS, and AMPS efforts will be addressed, as these affect a broad group involved in and/or supporting Antarctic atmospheric and related science. Thus the status of, and developments in, the AMRC, AWS, and AMPS programs will be reviewed and an avenue for feedback and results from their user communities will be offered. A session on Antarctic icebergs will be included. The workshop will also, however, serve more broadly as a forum for current results and ideas in Antarctic meteorology, NWP, and weather forecasting, from contributors to Antarctic efforts around the world. In addition, there will be general discussions on the relationships between the AMPS/AMRC/AWS, other U.S., and international efforts and Antarctic forecasting, logistical support, and science. Topics of mutual interest to these programs, to Antarctic weather forecasters and modelers, and support for the USAP and international programs will be considered.

Workshop Schedule & Presentations

A workshop schedule will be posted on the "Agenda" page once submissions are received. Day 1 (June 13) will focus on AMPS and Antarctic NWP, while days 2 and 3 (June 14-15), will focus on the AMRC and AWS developments and Antarctic observational and related research. There will also be a session on iceberg updates.

We are soliciting participation from all who are interested. Talks and extended abstracts are encouraged from those who would like to make an oral presentation. Oral presentations will be afforded 15-20 min, depending on the number to be accommodated. There will be a poster session for those who would like to submit posters instead of presenting orally. We will produce a preprint volume, and extended abstracts are due May 26, 2006. The extended abstracts may be up to 6 pages and should follow the standard AMS format for conference papers. PDF format is preferred, although Word documents may also be submitted. To submit extended abstracts, please use the "Upload Extended Abstracts" link.

Registration Details

Please register for the workshop by May 26, 2006 using the "Registration" link. To update your existing registration details, please use the "Update Registration" link.
