2005 Ice Initiation Planning Workshop
August 10, 2005
In June 2004, we hosted a workshop at NCAR to discuss the latest research on ice initiation and to gather opinions on how progress can be made in this area. This workshop was also aimed at developing a Scientific Overview Document (SOD) to study ice initiation in clouds. The workshop ran two days and had invited talks plus presentations by participants.
We are moving forward with the Ice Initiative by organizing a workshop in Boulder, September 27th and ½ day on September 28. Hans Verlinde, NSF Visiting Program Manager, will be attending the workshop. The goal of this workshop is to develop the details of a field program in the planning stages for the April/May 2007 time frame, and to provide input for your ongoing effort to prepare a proposal for participation in this effort. The field project will emphasize research flights along the Colorado-Wyoming-New Mexico Front Range, in wave, layer, and convective clouds with one or two aircraft. There will also be ground-based, modeling and laboratory participation. Following the November 2005 submission of your proposals to funding agencies, we will be submitting a facility request for one or more NSF aircraft in December.
Participants are encouraged to present an overview of their research proposal at the workshop.
Information about Presentations:
