April 22, 2005

The NCAR/Mesoscale and Microscale Meteorology Division invites you to attend a five-day WRF Tutorial, scheduled for July 25 - 29, 2005, at our Foothills Laboratory in Boulder, Colorado.

FOCUS: The tutorial will consist of a series of lectures on various components of the WRF modeling system and hands-on practice sessions, including:

  • Overview of the WRF modeling system
  • Dynamics and numerics of WRF ARW (or Eulerian mass) core
  • WRF physics
  • Initialization for idealized cases
  • Initialization for real-data cases
  • How to set up and run WRF SI
  • How to set up and run WRF model
  • WRF Software
  • Post-processing graphic tools
  • WRF 3DVAR

BASIC REQUIREMENTS: Basic knowledge of atmospheric science, numerical weather prediction as well as Fortran and UNIX is required for the class.

GENERAL POLICY: The tutorial class size is limited due to physical space and workstations available for practice. The classroom where the practice session takes place can only take 28 people at a time. As we have 2 practical groups a day, the maximum number of people we can accommodate is 56. Once a total of 56 users have registered for the tutorial, all other registrants will be placed on a waiting list for this tutorial class.

Upon registering, you will receive a confirmation that you have registered. Confirmation that you have been accepted to the tutorial class will be sent once payment has been received.

If payment has not been received by the deadline, you may be removed from the list and your spot given to someone on the waiting list. Participants on the waiting list will be notified as soon as possible regarding available space in the class.

The next WRF Tutorial is scheduled for JANUARY 2006.

The tutorial class will be canceled if less than 10 users register.

SCHEDULE/VENUE: 25 - 29 July 2005, NCAR Foothills Laboratory, Boulder Colorado

REGISTRATION FEE: The registration fee for the WRF tutorial is $250.00 for university users and $350.00 for others.

DEADLINES: Registration and payment are due by July 5, 2005.
