WRF/MM5 Joint Workshop Announcement

The NCAR/Mesoscale and Microscale Meteorology Division invites you to attend its first Joint WRF and MM5 Users' Workshop. The workshop provides a forum for both MM5 and WRF users to share their research results, and discuss problems and new developments.

FOCUS: Papers in the areas of model development, efforts in making the transition from MM5 to WRF, and comparison studies between MM5 and WRF are especially encouraged. A preprint volume will be prepared. Presentation titles and a short abstract are requested at the time of registration, and the extended abstracts will be solicited at a later date (see specific date information below).

SCHEDULE/VENUE:

This year's workshop is specially arranged to be held off site for the first 2 days, and in the NCAR's facility for the last two days

    • 22 - 23 June 2004: Millennium Harvest House, 1345 28th Street
    • 24 - 25 June 2004: NCAR auditorium at 3080 Center Green

We will provide shuttle service between the Millennium Harvest House and NCAR's Center Green laboratory.

WORKSHOP RECEPTION: A workshop reception will be held at the Millennium Harvest House on Tuesday evening, June 22, 2004.

REGISTRATION: The registration fee for the Joint WRF/MM5 Workshop is $150.00 for early registration (prior to May 10); and $200 after May 10. Proceed to the Registration page.

DEADLINES:

    • Registration & Payment due: May 10, 2004 - late registrations will be accepted with an additional $50 late fee applied.
    • Extended abstract for presenters are due: May 28, 2004 - this applies to both MM5 and WRF presenters

NOTES: The workshop will be followed by the first hands-on WRF Tutorial (June 28 - July 2, 2004).

This year's summer MM5 tutorial will NOT be held during this two week period. The date for the next MM5 tutorial has not been determined.

The NCAR/Mesoscale and Microscale Meteorology Division invites you to attend its first WRF Tutorial, immediately following the WRF/MM5 Workshop.

FOCUS: The Mesoscale and Microscale Meteorology Division, NCAR, is offering a five-day WRF tutorial on 28 June - 2 July, 2004. The tutorial will consist of a series of lectures on various components of WRF modeling system and hands-on practice sessions, including:

    • Overview of the WRF modeling system
    • Dynamics and numerics of WRF mass core
    • WRF physics
    • Initialization for idealized cases
    • Initialization for real-data cases
    • How to set up and run WRF SI
    • How to set up and run WRF model
    • WRF Software
    • Post-processing graphic tools
    • 3DVAR Practice sessions

SCHEDULE/VENUE:

    • 28 June - 2 July, 2004, NCAR Center Green & Foothills Laboratory, Boulder Colorado


REGISTRATION: The registration fee for the WRF tutorial is $250.00 for university users and $350.00 for others. Proceed to the Registration page.
