This work uses an infreared videocamera, the Inframetrics Thermacam SC1000, to look at wildfires.
An Image Flow Analysis algorithm, described in a paper submitted to J. Appl. Meteor. (in review) has been used to withdraw winds (on scales of cm and fractions of a second) and vertical heat fluxes in crowning forest fires during the International Crown Fire Modeling Experiment (June-July 1997). It is also being applied to data collected during WiFE (Wildfire Experiment), when the Thermacam was mounted to NSF's C130 research aircraft.
