The NCAR MMM Division's Mesoscale Prediction Group (MPG) will be
offering the final five-day MM5
tutorial class on January 24-28, 2005 at the NCAR Foothills Laboratory.
This class is designed for new MM5 users. We encourage new users
to attend a tutorial so that they can better understand the model
and make effective use of it.
The tutorial class is a mixture of lectures and hands-on practice
sessions. Detailed descriptions of the modeling system components
will be given in the class. Participants will form teams of two
and learn how to set up and run the modeling system programs on
Unix workstations.

If you would need a visa to enter the USA, please read this. <<<
Basic Requirement
Basic knowledge of atmospheric science, numerical weather prediction
as well as Fortran and UNIX is required for the class. If you have
not used the MM5 modeling system before, we strongly recommend that
you try the online
tutorial before you come to the tutorial class. This exercise
will help you better understand and benefit more from the lectures
at the tutorial. Participants are also required to be able to use
a UNIX editor (vi, or emacs).
General Policy
The tutorial class size is limited due to physical space and workstations
available for practice. The classroom where the practice session
takes place can only take 28 people at a time. Since
this will be the final MM5 tutorial, we will try to accommodate
all users, but once a total of 56 users have registered for the
tutorial, all other registrants will be registered for lectures
only. The
tutorial class will be canceled if less than 10 users register.
