Typical Use(s)of the MM5 model: The MM5 model is to be run within the project ProClim (Polar Ocean Climate Processes), which is funded by the Norwegian Research Council for the period 2003-2006. The objectives of the project are to study climate-related processes in polar regions, using observations, process modelling, parameterization, analysis of observations and model results, and synthesis. The project is organized in four Work Packages (WP): WP1 - deep mixing and sinking of water masses; WP2 - water mass generation over continental shelves; WP3 - convection and overflow from continental shelves; WP3 - Integration of results, by use of models, observation, and theory. The project leader is Professor Peter M. Haugan .MM5 will be used for process modelling in the atmosphere and polar ocean regions, for the area around Storfjorden (Spitsbergen) and the western Barents Sea. The model will be coupled, by means of the OASIS model coupling system, to the ROMS ocean and sea-ice model, to study processes in and around polynyas, which lead to the formation of brine, which by mixing and sinking can generate ocean deep water. Dates and particular meteorological events are as yet to be specified, It is anticipated that the brine-formation processes occur primarily during the winter season.

Typical Use(s)of the MM5 model: I participate in the project: DEVELOPMENT OF AN UP-TO-DATE RESEARCH INFRASTRUCTURE FOR AIR POLLUTION STUDIES IN BULGARIA - (BULAIR ) project leader prof. Dimiter Syrakov. The present project objective is the development of an up-to date research infrastructure for air pollution studies in Bulgaria.In the frame of this project we must made adoption, adaptation and validation of a set of modern diagnostic and prognostic local to regional scale models of the atmospheric dynamics and establishment of collaborative links and networking necessary for providing them with initial and lateral boundary conditions. In the moment I study MM5 and I am trying to run SOC case but in the future we would like to use MM5 operatively in the Bulgarian Emergency Response system.
