Typical Use(s)of the MM5 model: Eurocontrol is the European organisation for the safety of air navigation and air traffic control. MM5 will be used in the Environment Department to provide 'real-time' meteorological input to aircraft emission models. These models require fine space and time grids of winds, temperatures, pressures, and humidity. In essence, we will be looking at injecting and tracking the movement of pollutants in the atmosphere (NOx, CO, HC, SO2, H2O, CO2, Benzene, etc.) in the European airspace on a flight-by-flight basis. A mesoscale model like MM5 is required because commercial aircraft routinely change flight paths between destinations to avoid storm systems. My personal background is in atmospheric (and oceanographic) numerical modelling and meteorology.
