Mesoscale & Microscale Meteorology Division Science Plan:
2. IMPROVING OUR UNDERSTANDING OF EARTH-SYSTEM PROCESSES
In improving the knowledge of earth-system processes our major goals are
to develop a deeper understanding of:
- The 2-way scale interactions between multiscale precipitating convective
systems and other scales of motion, with particular attention to tropical
and warm-season convection and tropical cyclogenesis;
- The dynamics and predictability of weather systems on time scales of 0-48 h;
- Precipitation processes, with an emphasis on their improved representation in numerical models;
- The dynamics, physics and chemistry of multiscale atmospheric chemical constituent transport, dispersion and transformations;
and,
- Atmospheric boundary layers, emphasizing surface interactions.
