Below is a tentative agenda for our STEPS media day, Thursday, June 1, which we discussed at the meeting at NCAR on April 20. It will be held at the National Guard Armory in Goodland. I hope that as many of you as possible can be available that day to explain to reporters what STEPS is all about and what you will be doing with the vans, radars, balloons, various types of vehicles, etc. Please bring your vehicles (at least one example of each) to the Armory on this day and park them in the lot or in the adjacent field if we need more room. Please let me know how many vehicles you will bring so we can plan parking. Since reporters and film crews will have varying interests, the agenda for the second half of the day (11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.) will be somewhat flexible to accommodate their needs. So far, film crews that will be in town (arranged by NCAR, NSSL, or the Goodland NWS are Discovery Channel and Pioneer Productions (first week), Inside Science (May 29), German TV (May 31st and June 1), BBC (at least June 1 and probably longer). Regional and local film crews interested in attending media day are Channel 9 Denver, Goodland ABC affiliate, and Goodland area community college station. The NSSL and NCAR press releases and a media advisory from CSU will go out this week and will probably generate more interest. Kevin Lynott anticipates between 15 and 20 local reporters from the Goodland area. I plan to invite the Weather Channel and the Denver-Boulder print and TV reporters. The idea is to lure reporters to Goodland for media day, when many of you will be available, and then deal with other requests one by one as they occur during the course of the experiment. Please send me your suggestions, questions, or problems about any of this. Thanks, everyone.
