Shui-Yong
showed the verification scores of EXP11 and the compared them to those of
EXP02. It was found that using AVN 12h forecasts as background to WRF-Var can
lead to significant improved forecasts compared to the operational
configuration using T213 analyses/forecasts. Although there were slight
degradation in scores compared with EXP10, EXP11 configuration could be more
feasible for an operational implementation. Based on these results, Dr. Huang
suggested that BMB try to ftp AVN 12h forecasts as soon as possible to assess
whether it is feasible to use them in future operations.
EXP12 had
also been completed, but its verification was not available because BIG, the
computer we run our verifications, was down. Shui-Yong moved the verification
computation to BAY and should be able to present the scores of EXP12 at the
next project meeting.
Jiqin
introduced the verification of BMB operational system in the rainy season. Some
interesting rainfall cases were presented in the meantime. Dir. Kuo suggested
that the case of 20050625 should be run with WRF-Var + AVNFCST + NEW BES, and
be compared with BMB OPR.
Dir Kuo
will help Jiqin get a user account on BIG. Continue the verification
calculations of EXP12.
Dr. Huang
and Shuiyong should finalize the project review presentation by the next
meeting.

Jiqin
should make the best out of the overlapping period when both she and Shuiyong
are at NCAR. Before starting her main tasks, AWS and GPS data assimilation,
Jiqin should get familiar with the working environment including different
computers, gradually take over ShuiyongÕs work and be able to complete one or
two experiments with/without ShuiyongÕs help.
