Topic: Discuss the analysis results of BMB’s background error

Main contents:

1、 Shui-Yong showed the operational NWP system of BMB, including model configuration and terrain. Dr. Huang and Dr. Guo asked for a detailed illustration of model vertical level and horizontal domain. This work has been done.

2、 Shui-Yong showed the analysis results of BMB’s background error. Dr. Guo thought that the scale-length of moist and wind maybe has a problem and they are not reasonable, and also the eigenvalues in BE may be too small, especially for 27-km domain due to the lateral boundaries, need to be tuned. He suggested Shui-Yong to make the picture of the scale-length of control variances (PSI/CHI/P_U/QorRH) and make their eigenvalues. Also the single-obs test should be done and the result should be showed. Shui-Yong is preparing these works.

3、 Dr. Guo showed and explained the flow chart of new programs named gen_be to generate BE.

4、 Dr. Huang hope that Shui-Yong should know the system of IBM HPC quickly and setup the whole model system, including MM5/WRF/WRF3DVAR/gen_be in ten days.
