The 23th BMB-NCAR Project Meeting
Time: 02:00~03:00 pm, Apr 25, 2006
Participants:
Dr. Huang, Dr. Guo, Dir Kuo, Dr. Braun and Jiqin Zhong

Discuss
the project progress
Dir. Guo invited John Braun to explain the observation
errors in the GPS data file. The errors are not instrument errors, but formal
errors derived during the data processing. Using a constraint, which is
switched off in the current BMB configuration, can reduce them. Drs. Huang and
Guo suggested using the default error for GPS in the OBS_PROC in our GPSPW
assimilation experiments. However, a re-processed data would be preferred.
Jiqin ran GPSPW data assimilation experiments and
verified the results against observations. The scores based on AWS observations
showed positive impact on pressure and humidity, while neutral impact on wind
and temperature. Drs Huang and Guo suggested Jiqin make verification based on
GPS observations as well. Jiqin also should make the precipitation verification
package work as soon as possible.
Dir. Kuo suggested Jiqin make sure whether the data used
in the GPSPW assimilation experiments were post-processed or real-time
processed. If it was post-processed, Jiqin should get the real-time data and run
another experiment to assess the impact.
