The Third Meeting Memo of BMB-NCAR Project

Participants: Dr. Huang, Dr. Guo, Shui-Yong Fan

Main contents:

1、 A quick overview on the statement of work:：D13—missing (Shui-Yong should make a BMB local data list to the web quickly); D21 and D22—not available now; D23—report (It can show the result of 7.10 and other case studies); D32 and D33—two reports by Ji-Qing; D41—a report by Shui-Yong.

2、 Discuss the project progress since last meeting：Shui-Yong familiarized with the NCAR compute system including IBM supercomputer, read gen_be code to prepare the MM5 interface for gen_be, made gen_be/WRF/wrf3dvar/MM5 operational system running on IBM, took over the 7.10 case study from Wei-Huang. Dr. Guo has discussed twice with Shui-Yong on how to make the MM5 interface for gen_be and helped Shui-Yong make wrfvar run with MM5 data on IBM. Shui-Yong attended part of wrf tutorial.

3、 Create a wishing list to the project：①After the MM5 interface for gen_be, study the LBC problem in the NMC-method by comparing the results from different domains. ⑵Compare WRF-3DVAR and BMB operational MM5-3DVAR. ③Conduct case studies, 7.10 and 5.30 cases.

4、 Make a schedule for Shui-Yong：Complete the work of gen_be during Jul and Aug; conduct wrf and wrfvar case studies during Sep an Oct; write the reports during Nov and Dec.

5、 Next meeting will be at 2:00 pm, on Aug 9.
