The Sixth Meeting Memo of BMB-NCAR Project

Main contents:

1、 Discuss the verification results of EXP01：Shui-Yong showed the verification results of EXP01. (EXP01: a one-week-testing experiment with ncar3dvar and KMA BES and MM5 model. Testing week is from Jun 1 to 7, 2005. Only MM5 model used the IUM operational configuration.) The scores are compared with the OPR scores came from Beijing (IUM operational system is called OPR). Some surface fields, e.g., t2m and rh2m, scores for EXP01 are worse than those of OPR. Both Dr. Huang and Guo thought more experiments should be done, including running OPR on NCAR’s bluesky to get a standard reference (EXP00) and tuning some parameters and changing KMA winter BES to KMA summer BES (EXP02、03…). Shui-yong should make an experiment list to record every experiment. Dr. Guo also pointed out the observations for verification should be quality controlled, especially checked against background.

2、 Make a task list for Shui-Yong：① Run EXP00 to make sure that the MM5 operational system on NCAR’s Bluesky is the same as that on BMB’s Dawning. ② Replace KMA winter BES by KMA summer BES, tune some namelist options and run more experiments. ③ Make a detailed record to every experiment procedure and result. ④ Learn the verification code, tune the QC related parameters and re-calculate EXP01 scores. ⑤ Continue to complete the stage0 work.
