As agreed at the teleconference, we produce a short summary for the working progress every second week. This is the first one. Shuiyong had a ppt, summarizing his work. Jiqin wrote an email to Hans discussing her planned work. Yongrun updated the project web page.

Task 4. Computational performance
Shuiyong and Jiqin provided a nice summary. In short, there is no problem when running WRF-Var on supercomputers at BMB.
This item will be removed from the next summary.
Task 5. Meteorological performance
5.1. BE
Shuiyong started experiments using MM5 BE for WRF experiments on both 27 km and 9 km resolutions.
Yongrun worked on the BE interpolation code, which could be used to produce a new BE (e.g. 9 km BE) from an existing one (e.g. 27 km BE). It is expected to be ready shortly for BMB test.
Progress should be reported next time (Shuiyong, Yongrun).
5.2. WRFDFI
Two options of DFI have been developed: DFL and DDFI. Min started coding the third: TDFI.
Testing of DFL in data assimilation experiments showed good results, especially for precipitation scores.
The DDFI coding was finished but the data assimilation tests met problems.

5.3. Comparison
No report in any form from Zaiwen. (He is on the plan for 1 month, between July-September.)
Task 6.
6.1. Verification
Min started on the coding side and should provide Jiqin a package soon.

6.2. OSE
No progress.
To collect real time GTS data is a big task. It is up to BMB how the work should be arranged.
Jiqin will run OSE using the GTS data she brought back to BMB.

6.3. Cycling
Min has been working on a cycling script system.
However, the work was planned to start in October. No report is required.
6.4. Tuning
Shuiyong made some tests with orography related parameters. Both Yongrun and Hans felt it is time to work on the new WPS (to replace WRFSI).
The tuning work was planned to start next year. No report is required from Zhuofang.
6.5. MM5DFI
The work was planned to start next year. No report is required.
