Task 5. Meteorological performance
5.1. BE
Shuiyong performed several experiments to check the response of temperature and wind to a single temperature observation for 27-9km domains. The results revealed that the MM5 BE currently implemented in both 27 and 9 km WRF domains are reasonable.
Yongrun has made the BE interpolation code ready, which could be used to produce a new BE (e.g. 9 km BE) from an existing one (e.g. 27 km BE). Its test progress for BMB configuration should be reported next time (Shuiyong, Yongrun).
5.2. WRFDFI
TDFI, the third option of DFI has been developed.
The time series of vertical velocity and surface pressure at selected single points showed that DFL effectively removed the high frequency oscillations.
The problems in data assimilation tests arenŐt resolved yet. The possible reason is due to the version of wrfvar isnŐt compatible with that of the wrf model for DFI. The latest version of wrfvar from the trunk is under tuning now.

5.3. Comparison
No report in any form from Zaiwen. (He is on the plan for 1.5 month, between July-September.)
Task 6.
6.1. Verification
Min got the verification package from Zhiquan Liu. Test is ongoing.

6.2. OSE
No progress.
To collect real time GTS data is a big task. It is up to BMB how the work should be arranged.
Jiqin will run OSE using the GTS data she brought back to BMB.

6.3. Cycling
Min has been working on a cycling script system. The current problem is the incompatibility of wrfvar and wrf model.
However, the work was planned to start in October. No report is required.
6.4. Tuning
A series of data assimilation tests are also performed by Shuiyong to test the assimilation effect of different kinds of observations for a precipitation case. Both Yongrun and Hans felt it is time to work on the new WPS (to replace WRFSI).
The tuning work was planned to start next year. No report is required from Zhuofang.
6.5. MM5DFI
The work was planned to start next year. No report is required.
