Task 5. Meteorological performance

5.1. BE

 

Shuiyong re-calculated the BE for 27 and 9km domains using the accumulated forecast samples in a period of half a month with the setup of WRFSI+WRF and AVN 12-hourŐs forecast interpolated as initial condition. But the similar problem as previous experiments still exists in the results.

 

5.2. WRFDFI

 

This task is finished. Please refer to MinŐs summary.

 

5.3. Comparison

 

Jiqin spent some time to finish the performance comparison between operational MM5 and pre-operational WRF runs during the summer of 2006. But the results will be reported next time.

Task 6. Monitoring of pre-operational runs and case studies

 

6.1. Verification

 

The codes relating with vertical level verification has been prepared. But further tests will be performed.

 

6.2. OSE

 

According to the discussion of our previous tele-meeting, the OSE experiments should be performed with the GTS data which is collected from the IUM/BMB local network. The available GTS historical data of this summer was just received from the National Meteorological Information Center today. Although Jiqin had spent a lot of time on processing the data from 9210 distributing system, as the format of the data from NMIC is different with the one from 9210, she still have to spend some time on data processing next week before OSE experiments.

 

6.3. Cycling

 

Min and Shuiyong are working on the setup of an operational cycling framework using WPS+WRFVAR+WRF. But the ndown.exe is found to be problematic when generating the nested initial conditions from WPS results. 

 

6.4. Tuning

 

Shuiyong finished coding for the interface of our local profiler data in WRFVAR and some experiments were performed.

 No report is required from Zuofang.

 

6.5. MM5DFI

 

The work was planned to start next year. No report is required.
