CWB Project Meeting - 7/24/08

 

1.      WRF

1.1  Currently, still use 45/15/5 km domain in experiments.

1.2  Dr. Hong will make sure the results of WRF V2.2 and WRF V3.0 are the same, and test and determine the optimal configuration of WRF V3.0, including domain, cumulus parameterization (Grell scheme), and Implementation of DFI .

 

2.      Maxine and Dr. Guo will test 3-h cycling of August 2007 case, with WRF V2.2 first, and then WRF V3.0, if there is still time, try DFI. To see the impact of GPS-RO data.

 

3.      ZTD/PW

3.1  Ya-ting and Dr. Guo will do the ZTD/PW assimilation with 1-h or 3-h cycling of typhoon KALMAEGI ( or TiMREX ). Use WRF V2.2 + WRF-Var V2.1 operational code and ZTD code (Goddard scheme).

3.2  Dr. Terng considers about WRF spin-up time of 1-h cycling maybe too long, NACR should check first. Yes, based on BMB experiences, 1-h cycle did not get more improvements from 3-h cycle (Guo).

3.3  Dr. Kuo will check the GPS data completeness with Dr. Braun.

3.4  Dr. Hong will provide the beginning and ending time of the experience.

3.5  In order to see the impact on heavy precipitation, Ya-ting and Dr. Hong will do the QPF verification. Verification will base on rain gauge, and radar estimated rainfall, and maybe TRMM.

 

4.      CWB Project Report will be held on the end of November. CAA Project Report will be held on the first week of December. Dr. Terng and Dr. Kuo will ask Dr. Bresch about his trip to Taiwan.

 

5.      Dr. Terng and Dr. Hong will give a brief talk about the situation of using WRF and WRF-VAR in CWB when they visit NCAR.
