ACTIVITES SUMMARY
2000 – present One of the primary developers of MM5/WRF 3DVAR system, especially for observation preprocessor, observation operators (GPS RO, GPS ZTD, AWS, etc.), multiple loops incremental approach, Background error statistics, etc., and in 2004, serves as the science manager for WRF 3DVAR system.
2001 – 2002 Took the lead in completing the first year tasks of the KMA (Korea Meteorological Administration) project. Performed the KMA AWS (Automatic Weather Station) data assimilation in 3DVAR system for 14 July 2001 Heavy Rain case over the Korean Peninsula, wrote all the project reports, and attended the final project review in Seoul, Korea.
2002 – 2003 Worked with colleagues in MPG/DA group to incorporate more types of the observations into the parallelized version of the MM5/WRF 3DVAR system, such as QuikSCAT, ATOVS, radar radial velocity, ... etc. Performed the study of the 12 June 2002 IHOP case with 3DVAR assimilation of the GPS PW data for the CRIEPI project.
Reviewed the MM5V3 4DVAR MPP code for CWO-5 project.
2003 – 2004 Served as a coordinator of 2003 AFWA (Air Force Weather Agency) Project in the area of three-dimensional variational data assimilation. Completed a total of 11 research tasks required by the project. The updated MM5 3DVAR system was implemented in the AFWA operational NWP system.
Performed the GPS PW assimilation study for the CRIEPI project, and presented the results at the 2004 AMS Annual meeting, Seattle, WA.
2000 – 2003 Worked with So-Young Ha for her Ph.D thesis research on the assimialtion of the slant path GPS wet delay with MM5 4DVAR system. So-Young Ha received her Ph.D degree in May 2003.
