1. Work review

1.1. Statistics

Ju-Won made a brief document on the practical side of running statistics.

Hans asked Ju-Won to start drafting a document of the statistics with formulae, description, and their possible use in the DFI related studies.

Hans and Wei suggested making a test on the CONUS domain with 30km resolution, using the 24 Jan 2000 case.

Wei also suggested plotting the divergence tendency on 500 and 300 hPa fields.

1.2. DFL

A documentation of DFL is still needed.

Min got her US visa. So the work on revising the code will be started around 6 June with Wei. Ju-Won should start the DFL tests, using the KMA 10km domain and running cycles.

1.3. Backward integration

Wei started the backward integration work, using an idealized case. Tom, Wei and Hans had a meeting on the requirements of DFI.

1.4. Summary

Ju-Won has settled down and started running jobs on NCAR computers.

2. Work plan for two weeks

Hans: arrange Min’s travel and other practical issues for Min’s start at MMM; review the documents prepared by Ju-Won and Min; test the backward integration when it is ready.

Wei: help Ju-Won set the CONUS domain up; press on the backward integration work using the idealized cases.

Ju-Won: run the DFL experiments (cold start and cycle tests), repeat the DFL tests on the CONUS domain and confirm the noisy pattern in the divergence tendency fields; try to understand the strange oscillations in some statistics; write some text about the statistics package

3. AOB

Min got her US visa. She may arrive on 5 June.

We will have regular project meetings, every second Tuesday, Lilly room, 2 pm. Next meeting: Tuesday 6 June.
