 1.Work review

 

1.1. Oscillations in precipitation rate

 

Ju-won showed the precipitation oscillations of explicit and cumulus schemes from cycle runs.  Wei suggested this problem is not uncommon, as Min has encountered it in MM5.

 

1.2 Diagnostic tool for a single model point

 

Hans suggested Ju-won to have some diagnostic tests such as vertical velocity, surface pressure, etc. on single points with different orography. Wei promised Ju-won to provide some programs about it.

 

1.3 Lateral boundary conditions in backward integration

 

Min checked the lateral boundary conditions for backward integration. Hans gave a suggestion that we should use a lateral boundary condition generated from -3hr to 0hr for backward integration. Ju-won will work on BC for 3h interval. Wei pointed out that the horizontal diffusion in WRF is actually implicit, and the subroutines of horizontal diffusion arenŐt called at all. Wei promised to spend some time on the work of diffusion for backward integration.

 

2. Work plan for next 2 weeks

 

All: try to understand oscillation.

 

Wei: work on horizontal diffusion and point diagnostic tools for Ju-won.

 

Ju-won: continue the DFL test; work on 3hr-interval LBC generation; run single point diagnostics (low priority).

 

Min: test the new lateral boundary condition in backward integration; setup BMB cycle scripts based on WRF.

 

Hans: review the descriptions about DFL and diagnostic programs provided by Min and Ju-won; test the latest code.
