I am a Postgraduate Scientist in the MMM division of NESL. My interests are diverse, but focused on the impacts of extreme weather - from improving statistical analysis of observed and projected extreme events, to communicating the results to end users such as risk managers and designers. My main research interests in MMM are: extreme value analysis of events such as heat waves, droughts and extreme rainfall associated; the development of damage indices related to severe weather; and deriving engineering design parameters to withstand extreme weather impacts. My range of interests reflect a broad career path, having worked as a Civil Engineer in flood prevention and mitigation for several years prior to obtaining my Ph.D. from Newcastle University, UK, in June 2012. During 2010 I spent a three month internship with the Scottish Government's Climate Change Adaptation team as part of a policy knowledge exchange program, responding to the likely impacts of Climate Change in Scotland. While in summer 2008, I spent some time in Uganda reviewing water and sanitation in and around Kabbubu Village and helping to develop "low regret" solutions to improve the facilities and water supplies.
