Before publicly releasing the data set, I'd like to update several derived variables, add metadata for all the variables, and prepare an NCAR Technical Note which documents the data set.
A full public release of the data set (version 1.0) is planned by September 30, 2011. This version will include storm data from 1989-2010.
As a longer term project, real-time structure and intensity data from the VDM data will be made available in real-time on the 'Structure Data' page of the Tropical Cyclone Guidance Project.
A three-part paper series on hurricane eye formation is currently in preparation based on these data. The data set have also been used by a SOARS student, Diamilet Betancourt-Perez, for her 2010 summer project.
