Mesoscale Meteorology

Rich Rotunno has worked on the theory and modeling of a number of meteorological phenomena including tornadoes, supercell thunderstorms, squall lines, hurricanes, polar lows, midlatitude cyclones and fronts, stratified flow past mountains, sea breezes, and variety of related fluid-dynamics problems such vortex instability, density currents, internal bores and hydraulic jumps. Current research interests include orographic precipitation and atmospheric predictability.
