Project Summary
The Weather Research and
Forecasting
Model (WRF) is an advanced mesoscale forecast and data assimilation system
being built to accelerate research advances into operational weather forecasting.
It will replace MM5 (the NCAR/Penn State
University mesoscale model), the current atmospheric science community model
support by NCAR. We are currently adding a coupled atmosphere-fire behavior module
based upon the NCAR coupled atmosphere-fire model to WRF to take advantage of
this state-of-the-art weather modeling system and provide a supported community
fire modeling
tool for anyone to use either as a research or operational tool.
For more details, see: Implementation
of a wildland fire model component in WRF.
