With the realization of the increasing importance
of science questions related to global climate change, two-way interactions
of meteorology and chemistry are becoming a necessity in complex
three-dimensional models. Radiation/aerosol/chemistry and microphysics/aerosol
interactions are an area of particular interest, but PBL and surface
processes may also be important.
For this reason, the WRF-chem working group
would like to form another working group (or subgroup) jointly with the
physics working group, that will be exclusively
focused on parameterizations that offer the possibility for full
meteorological-chemical interactions. We think it would be useful to have a
joint discussion to hear about areas of particular research needs from each groups perspective and to gauge interest in such a highly
focused group. |

Working Group 1 (Numerics and Software)
will be meeting on Monday 11 June 2007 (during the scheduled WRF working group
meeting time at the 2007 WRF workshop) to discuss dynamical cores for global
WRF models. The latitude-longitude grid WRF-ARW global model, developed by
Mark Richardson and his group at CalTech for
planetary atmospheres, is currently being tested for earth-atmosphere
simulations. We expect that this
capability will be included in the next major WRF-ARW release. We will be discussing the
latitude-longitude WRF-ARW formulation along with other possible discretizations for future global WRF models. Anyone interested in global WRF numerics and capabilities is welcome to attend. For more
