Weather Modeling & Research Section
Overview
The Weather Modeling & Research Section (WMR) advances research and development in mesoscale meteorology and numerical weather prediction (NWP). A key component of this is development and support of the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model for a large international user community. This includes hosting workshops and tutorials, issuing releases, and managing the code repository. Integral to this, WMR scientists and software engineers collaborate with researchers and model developers worldwide in applying and improving WRF. In addition, WMR section personnel conduct and support real-time WRF forecasting efforts, both those of NCAR and of outside agencies. As it looks to the future, WMR also leads the development and testing of the new Model for Prediction Across Scales (MPAS).
